Writer Mary Hayley Bell, the widow of acting legend SIR John Mills, died last week (01DEC05) at the age of 91.

Bell, best known for her marriage to Mills and writing the novel on which the film and musical WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND was based, had suffered Alzheimer's Disease for years and was restricted to a wheelchair during her final years.

Bell is survived by actress daughters JULIET, HAYLEY - who starred in the 1961 film version of Whistle Down The Wind - and son JONATHAN.

GANDHI star Mills died in April (05) of complications from pneumonia.
