The Martin star passed away at an Atlanta, Georgia medical centre on Wednesday (12Oct16), three days after he was hospitalised with a ruptured aneurysm in his abdomen. He was 52.

Lawrence shared his prayers for Ford and his family on social media earlier on Wednesday after learning he was on life support, and he has since issued a statement expressing his condolences following his pal's death.

"Tommy was not only a great co-star but he was a great man and friend," he told Entertainment Weekly. "He always brought with him his spirituality a positive attitude and so much joy.

"I am sad the world lost a great talent and that I lost a wonderful friend. God bless him and his family."

Funnyman Bill Bellamy, who worked with Ford on his stand-up show Who's Got Jokes?, took to Instagram to share his tribute.

"Today I received some sad news that I have lost my brother and cast member #tommyford," Bellamy wrote beside a photo of the cast. "We bonded over 5 seasons of #whosgotjokes a show that highlighted so many of the next generation comedians. I just want the fans to pray for all of our families."

Media personality Steve Harvey and Sister, Sister star Jackee Harry also remembered their friend online, while actress Vivica A. Fox tweeted, "NOOO! Just hearing about the passing of #TommyFord WOW! My heart is SOO sad RIP my friend! My deepest sympathies n prayers go 2 his family (sic)".
