Dead movie legend Marlon Brando's estate has filed a trademark protection application to keep THE GODFATHER star's image intact.

Producer Mike Medavoy, who is the co-executor of Brando's will, insists too many people are profiting from his late friend's image, and it's time there was more control.

He says, "You want some sort of blanket protection against anyone doing something that basically goes out and steals his image and puts it on a napkin."

Medavoy and the estate are seeking trademark protection on items such as bottle openers, calendars, credit cards and key chains.
