Marlon Brando's The Godfather co-star Robert Duvall has paid tribute to the late legend, calling him a "godfather" for hungry young stars.

Duvall admits he was "sad" to hear of the passing of Brando, who died on Thursday night (01JUL04).

He says, "He was like a godfather to many young actors worldwide, but particularly in this country.

"He had enormous positive influence on younger performers. His memory will live forever."

BABE star James Cromwell, who heard of the sad news as he passed the movie legend's Mulholland Drive estate in Los Angeles on an early morning bike ride today (02JUL04), added, "He was a god."
