Late movie legend Marlon Brando's personal effects will be sold at New York auction house Christie's on 30 June (05) in the most high-profile sale since Marilyn Monroe's estate was auctioned in 1999.

Organisers expect to raise more than $1 million (GBP526,000) from the sale of 250 items from Brando's former Los Angeles home, which include the script from his 1972 classic The Godfather, his OSCAR nomination certificate for ON THE WATERFRONT and the infamous black outfit her wore in the first Superman movie.

A Christie's spokesperson says, "Marlon Brando was an extremely private and elusive individual and the sale offers a rare privilege - an intimate insight into the lifestyle and career of a famed screen colossus.

"Brando meticulously retained memorabilia from his acting career and these treasure troves help unravel the methods of his iconic and legendary characterizations, and offer an unsurpassed window into the world of this enigmatic acting genius."
