Marlee Matlin, the American actress who won an Academy Award in 1987, says she is taking her four children out of private school to ease her financial troubles. Marlee Matlin reportedly owes $50,000 in back taxes, leaving her with no option but to save money on school fees and to sell her Los Angeles home.
45-year-old Marlee told People Magazine that she is currently working out a payment schedule with the Internal Revenue Service to settle her tax bill from the 2009 financial year. The actress said she and her police officer husband "have always made ends meet in the past", adding, "We will in this circumstance as well". The couple have put an $899,000 price tag on their five bedroom home in the Los Angeles suburb of Pasadena, saying they plan to move to a different area with "a good public school". Matlin, who won an Oscar for her lead role in 'Children of a Lesser God', said, "It's reality. It's the reality that a lot of people in America are facing".
Marlee Matlin, perhaps the best known deaf actress in Hollywood, is a contestant in the current season of 'Celebrity Apprentice'. She has made Emmy nominated guest appearances in 'Seinfeld', 'Picket Fences' and 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'.
