Earrings worn by Marilyn Monroe in two of her most iconic movie roles are to go on sale at a Los Angeles auction house.
A pair of pearl drop earrings worn by the star in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and another pair the star donned in the movie Some Like It Hot are among more than 600 lots up for auction.
The items, made by costume jeweller Joseff of Hollywood, will be exhibited at Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons in Ireland until May (17), before being put up for sale at Julien's Auctions in Los Angeles in November (17).
Other lots bidders will be able to secure include the coral necklace worn by Vivien Leigh and cigar case used by Clark Gable in Gone With the Wind, necklaces worn by Bette Davis when playing Queen Elizabeth I of England in The Virgin Queen, and a brooch worn by Marlene Dietrich in Shanghai Express.
"Buying a piece of this isn't like buying a diamond necklace from Cartier, you're actually owning a piece of Hollywood memorabilia," Isabel Yeo, Julien's Auctions' jewellery specialist told Reuters.
According to the auction house, the jewellery company's founder Eugene Joseff developed a special plating technique that softened the glare of studio lighting so the stars' adornments looked authentic on screen.
Although he passed away in 1948, his wife J.C. continued to run the company until her death at the age of 97, in 2010.
