Marika Hackman and Sivu have unveiled a unique collaboration ahead of their joint headline tour in December. The two artists have crafted a shared tape release, with each writing a song for the other to feature on. Marika's 'Skin' will join Sivu's 'I Hold' to form the AA side release, which will be given away as a free gift for fans attending the December shows. As of today, both duets are available to as free downloads on Soundcloud.
Produced by shared collaborator Charlie Andrew (Alt-J), these collaborative songs bring together two of the brightest new talents of the year. The tape release will be the first time Sivu and Marika, long-time fans of each other's work, have teamed up, but will not be the last: the pair begin their UK dates in Brighton on December 10.
Intrigue is at the heart of Marika Hackman's music, but there's something gloriously attainable about her as an artist and her commitment to touring and meeting with a receptive audience who are searching for the very same antidotes to the challenges of modern life. 'Sugar Blind' marks a significant stride forward in Marika's songwriting. From the swarming, psychedelic grit of lead track, 'Cinnamon', which Marika describes as about "the dumbing down of humanity", to the earthy, intimate interpretation of Joanna Newsom's ''81', each song pays testament to Marika's rare talent.
Sivu is currently recording his debut album, in the wake of a breakthrough twelve months. February's 'Better Man Than He' and this summer's 'Bodies' EP portrayed an immersive mix of introspective acoustics with glitchy electronics; as inspired by the lilting melodies of Frank Sinatra as the left-field pop of Beck. Songs were written amidst an adjustment period: Sivu moved to London, worked as an administrator for a bailiff company, and took up a permanent fixture in a call centre in Waterloo. Slowly, he began to build strange sounds and textures around these dark yet ultimately hopeful songs. Then the MRI-machine video for 'Better Man Than He' went viral, and people began to take notice...
Marika Hackman and Sivu will play the following shows together in December:
December 10 - Brighton - The Hope
December 11 - London - The Lexington
December 12 - Cambridge - Portland Arms
December 13 - Manchester - Gullivers
December 14 - Bristol - The Birdcage
