Music stars Mariah Carey, Damon Dash and Wu-Tang Clan joined mourners at rapper OL' DIRTY BASTARD's funeral service on Thursday (18NOV04).

The GOT YOUR MONEY hitmaker - real name RUSSELL JONES - collapsed and died in a Manhattan recording studio on Sunday (13NOV04), only days before his 36th birthday.

At a private service at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York, the rapper's Wu-Tang bandmate and cousin RZA apologised to the congregation for not doing enough to stop Jones' well-publicised battle with drugs and the law.

RZA said, "The use of alcohol, drugs and sex will take any one of us out of here.

"He was a unique soul in the family. Everywhere he went, people fell in love with him immediately."

Jones' daughter SHAQUITA read a poem she composed after her famous father's shock demise, saying, "My heart is thrashing, my soul is breaking, my father is freed, and now he has awakened."

Another of his children, TANIQUA, spoke of her dad as "a big kid", declaring, "One thing I know. My father will be missed all around the world."

Carey arrived at church dressed in black and took time to reflect over her former collaborator - who rapped on her 1995 hit FANTASY - by his open casket.
