News anchor shared the sad news on her Instagram page on Tuesday (30Aug16), writing alongside a picture of her mother Litsa and father Constantinos standing by an aeroplane: "And so our journey begins. She later shared a snap alongside her parents, her fiance Keven Undergaro and brother Peter, captioning it: "#teamlitsa #love #family #itsallaboutlitsa #standup2cancer #fight."

Maria later took to Twitter to thank her fans for their kind words in the wake of her revelation.

When one follower told Maria the "prayer warriors are mobilised", she replied: "Thank you so much my friend and to everyone praying!the love is overwhelming and prayers r (sic) needed."
