Maria Menounos and her dance partner Derek Hough landed the first perfect score of the season on last night's episode of Dancing with the Stars (April 30, 2012). The TV journalist performed an immaculate pasa doble that the shows judges simply couldn't find fault with. As the camera panned over to the judging panel for comments, Carrie Ann Inaba joked "that dance sucked" but she couldn't keep up the pretence for long and pretty soon she was gushing with praise, saying "you were so on fire!" Overall, Maria and Derek scored a total of 57/60 for the two dances that they performed.
The British opera singer Katherine Jenkins turned in another solid performance. She and her partner Mark Ballas ruled the dance floor with their rumba and Bruno Tonioli said that her performance was an 'elegant' one. With the bonus dance, they scored a total of 54/60, putting them in second place. Bringing up the rear, with last night's scoring, were Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy - both of whom had been troubled with injuries last week. Their Argentine Tango was something of a disaster, with Carrie Ann telling them that it was like "Cirque du Soleil gone terribly wrong." They scored a total of 47/60; the lowest score of the evening.
Jaleel White and Kym Johnson were not far in front, with 51 out of 60. Len Goodman wasn't impressed with Jaleel's footwork this week. This morning, reports surfaced of Jaleel having a bit of a grumble backstage after the show; apparently he reckons the judges should have shown a bit more praise for his hard work.
