Australian Actress Maggie Kirkpatrick Has Been Cleared Of Historic Sexual Abuse Following An Appeal Against Her Conviction.
The Prisoner: Cell Block H star, 74, was found guilty on two counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency on a person under 16 in August (15) amid allegations she sexually abused a 14-year-old female fan in the 1980s.
She was placed on the sex offenders register and slapped with an 18-month community corrections order, which included 100 hours of community service.
Kirkpatrick launched an appeal against the conviction in August (15), and Judge Geoffrey Chettle overturned the charges and sentence during a hearing at Victorian County Court in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday (08Dec15).
Chettle found inconsistencies between the complainant's version of events and evidence given by a psychiatrist, and ruled the allegations could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
Kirkpatrick wept outside the court as she thanked supporters, and said, "It's been rather difficult but I'm very happy with the result."
