Madonna will showcase music from her new album CONFESSIONS ON A DANCEFLOOR for the first time at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Portugal on Thursday (3NOV05).

The queen of pop is hoping her global performance of HUNG UP, the first track from Confessions, will boost album sales to compensate for the single's poor reception.

Madonna's last three albums, GHV2, American Life and REMIXED AND REVISITED, failed to live up to the singer's reputation as one of the most successful female solo artists, only selling a total of 10-11 million copies.

The MUSIC star will be joined at the prestigious ceremony by British acts Coldplay and Robbie Williams, rock group Foo Fighters and hip-hop band Black Eyed Peas.

BRENT HANSEN, creative president of MTV Networks International says, "We have a very strong line-up this year and we've been able to bring in a much wider variety of rock acts than we've been able to do in the recent past.

"The market has been dominated by R+B and hip-hop in the last few years.

"For us, this show states each year our belief in live performance and our ability to do something different from other people."
