Madonna has been slammed for an "embarrassing" speech at the Golden Globe Awards.

David Furnish branded the singer "desperate" after her song 'Masterpiece' from her movie 'W.E.' beat his husband Sir Elton John's efforts on animated film 'Gnomeo and Julliet' to win Best Original Song at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (15.01.12).

Taking to social networking site Facebook to voice his frustrations, the film director wrote: "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!

"Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it's narcissism. And her critisism ofGaga shows how desperate she really is.(sic)"

David's criticism came after Elton had said earlier in the night that he didn't think Madonna had a "f***ing chance" of winning the accolade.

He explained: "Mary J [Blige] might win it for 'The Help'. Madonna doesn't have a f***ing chance."
