Now filming its ninth series, the show has been a TV favourite since debuting in 2007. Set in the Spanish holiday resort of Benidorm, the series has attracted plenty of big names over the years, including Joan Collins, Sheridan Smith and comedian Johnny Vegas.

Britain’s Daily Star newspaper reports producers had hoped to keep the latest appearance under wraps but the band, led by frontman Suggs, was spotted on set.

“We are thrilled to get Madness on board. It’s going to be a great episode,” a TV source told the publication. "The cast were quite star-struck. Madness play a handful of hits in the show.”

Comedian Jason Manford also features in series nine, due to hit screens next year (17).

“A lot of people want to be on the show. It has always been about crazy characters,” scriptwriter Derren Litten said.

Benidorm regularly pulls in nearly 6 million viewers, and has become a cult hit for British TV network ITV.

The band is yet to comment, though eagle eyed holidaymaker Alec Horrocks managed to get a snap of Suggs and posted it on Twitter.

“Our sonny and Suggs from madness on the set of Benidorm,” Alec captioned the snap of the Baggy Trousers star and a young fan.

The news adds to a mammoth 2016 for ‘80s band Madness, who wowed at Britain’s Glastonbury Festival in June.
