British actor Mackenzie Crook was refused entry to the London premiere of The Merchant Of Venice on Monday night (29NOV04), because he didn't have a ticket.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star, who appears as Al Pacino's manservant in the big screen version of William Shakespeare's classic play, was only allowed to take his seat after a member of the production team spotted his predicament.

Security at the Leicester Square venue was high due to the presence of British royal Prince Charles.

The 33-year-old says, "I arrived early, but security refused to let me in because I didn't have a ticket to see the film. I had to be onstage later in (stage play) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which is why I didn't have one.

"I know security was extra tight because the Prince Of Wales was attending, but I didn't expect to be refused entry. It wasn't until a member of the production team spotted me that the police finally let me in - half an hour after I arrived."
