Rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd have been forced to re-route their concert cruise in a bid to avoid the wrath of Hurricane Sandy.

The Sweet Home Alabama hitmaker's five-day Simple Man Cruise was due to sail from Miami to Key West, Florida beginning on Saturday (27Oct12), but organisers have changed the boat's course over safety concerns as the powerful storm heads for the coast.

A post on the group's official page reads, "We will be re-routing our trip to ensure the most noticeable 'rocking' will be the music, not the ship. Our new port stop will now be Cozumel, Mexico...

"We know you were all excited about Key West and Great Stirrup Cay and we appreciate your understanding. We have certainly learned one thing over the past six years with this family. It's always about the Journey."

Despite the weather, Lynyrd Skynyrd braved the high winds and large waves to put on a show for their fans on Saturday night - a post uploaded on the social networking site on Sunday (28Oct12) reads, "The Band got the Simple Man Cruise off to a great start last night with a blistering 60 minute set on the main deck in gale force winds. This ship rocks!!!!"
