Lupe Fiasco's mentor has lost his bid to have an appeal heard by the U.S. Supreme Court following his 2007 prison sentence for drug charges.
Hip-hop mogul Charles Patton was sentenced to 44 years behind bars on charges stemming from a 2003 drug bust.
According to police reports, six kilograms (13.2 pounds) of heroin were recovered from a storage locker in Patton's possession and he was armed with a loaded gun when he was arrested.
His attorneys have been fighting the sentence, arguing jurors were not questioned by his trial judge on whether they had any bias against firearms, which could have influenced their verdict.
But Patton's legal team failed to sway officials at the Illinois Appellate Court, who rejected the appeal on Monday (05Apr10).
Patton founded music label 1st & 15th with Kick, Push star Fiasco in 2002.
The rapper has never been implicated in the dealings.
