LATEST: Hundreds of mourners are paying their respects to Luciano Pavarotti, whose body is laying in state in his hometown of Modena, Italy. The tenor lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday (06Aug07) at the age of 71. Residents of Modena and fans who have travelled from far afield lined up outside Modena Cathedral on Friday (07Sep07) to view his body. His widow Nicoletta is also at the cathedral. Members of the public are allowed to visit Pavarotti until Saturday (08Sep07), when his funeral will take place. Italy is meanwhile in mourning for one of its greatest ever talents. On Friday, each national newspaper paid it's own tribute; Corriere della Sera proclaimed, "The world cries for its most famous Italian as an era ends," and La Stampa described the star as the "best known, best loved" Italian.
