Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has been placed on suicide watch in prison as he awaits trial on child sex offences.
The revelation was made during a pre-trial hearing at Cardiff Crown Court in Wales on Tuesday (13Aug13), as the musician's defence attorney argued he should be moved to a secure hospital for treatment.
His lawyer, Sally O'Neill, told the court, "He is on suicide watch five times an hour... He has been seen by a clinical psychologist and she believes he should be receiving anti-psychotic medication... She wants him to be taken to a secure hospital for assessment and treatment."
Watkins, 35, made a brief appearance during the hearing via videolink from a prison in Bridgend.
He denies 24 sex offences, including two counts of raping a baby under the age of 12 months, and another charge of aiding and abetting the sexual assault of another child, who was aged under 18 months at the time.
Two female co-defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also appeared in court. The trio was remanded in custody as the hearing was adjourned until 14 October (13).
Watkins is expected to stand trial in November (13).
