Police refused to investigate paedophile rocker Ian Watkins as they feared sparking a storm of publicity, according to the Lostprophets star's ex-girlfriend.

The disgraced singer was jailed for 35 years in 2013 for an appalling catalogue of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

His former lover Joanne Mjadzelics, who had repeatedly tried to alert cops to his offending, was subsequently charged with possessing child pornography but was cleared by a jury in Wales this week (ends18Jan15) after telling the court that authorities had targeted her for exposing their blunders.

Now she has revealed documentation disclosed to her by officials at Britain's Crown Prosecution Service (Cps) as part of her case shows an officer at South Wales Police informed his superiors he was "reluctant" to probe child abuse claims against the rocker over fears of a media maelstrom.

Mjadzelics tells U.K. Tv show This Morning, "From documentation that I have now had disclosed to me from the Cps, there is actually a note from one detective sergeant and it says although the images are alarming, we are reluctant to investigate because it would be high profile and create a lot of press interest. They actually say that."
