THE SOPRANOS star Lorraine Bracco has high praise for New York's detectives after watching them work on a murder case.

The actress and pal CANDACE BERGEN were taking part in the Commanding Officer For A Day programme - where celebrities shadow cops - when the killing was reported, and they dashed to the scene.

Bracco admits she was stunned by the way quick-thinking detectives set about solving the murder.

She says, "We get the call and, of course, I'm like a dog with a bone. When I arrived, there was no longer the body. I think Candace might have had the pleasure of meeting him - I know Candace was a little taken aback by it.

"What was fantastic is it was a military commando operation - all these policemen getting together, they had a dog because they thought they had a jacket from the killer, so they had special dogs just to follow the scent of the human being.

"It was absolutely unbelievable how these men and women got together to figure out what, who, how and what they knew about it."
