Lorde is thrilled with the news her parents got engaged today (17.06.14) after 30 years together.
Lorde's parents have got engaged.
The 17-year-old singer shared the happy news with her fans on her Twitter account after witnessing her dad Vic O'Connor get down on one knee to propose to her mother, poet Sonja Yelich, against the romantic backdrop of Niagara Falls.
She excitedly tweeted: ''BEST DAY - went to niagara falls - my dad proposed to my mum after almost 30 years together. (sic)''
Lorde also make a reference to her hit song 'Royals' and its infamous opening lyric, ''I've never seen a diamond in the flesh / I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies''.
The star quipped: ''Inevitable response yes i know i have seen a diamond now (sic)''
Lorde - who scooped the International Video of the Year gong at the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday (15.06.14) - recently admitted she was the quietest member of her ''insane'' family.
The New Zealander said: ''We're one of the louder, more insane families. We're all super creative and impulsive.
''It's been a good environment to learn how to speak your mind, you know? And be feisty. And unapologetic.
''But weirdly, I'm the quietest member of my family. It took me a while to be able to find a voice in terms of being able to talk to people.''
The singer introduced "the next generation" in Iceland.
