Lionel Richie is to be celebrated for his career achievements with an honorary degree from a top U.S. music school.
The Dancing on the Ceiling singer is set to receive a doctorate in music by officials from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts during a commencement ceremony on 13 May (17).
The Recording Academy president and chief executive Neil Portnow, singer Lucinda Williams, guitarist Shin Joong Hyun and multi-instrumentalist Todd Rundgren, who will serve as commencement speaker, will also be presented with the honours by Berklee president Roger H. Brown at the Agganis Arena at Boston University in recognition of their achievements in music and their contributions to culture.
Traditionally, Berklee students will celebrate the work of the honourees by performing their music, or music associated with them, during a pre-commencement gala on 12 May (17).
Previous recipients include Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Annie Lennox, Carole King, Willie Nelson, and Julio Iglesias.
