Rockers Linkin Park have axed their upcoming shows after frontman Chester Bennington suffered a nasty ankle injury.

No more details about the severity or cause of Bennington's problem have been released, but the band has called off concerts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Tuesday (20Jan15) and Albany, New York on Wednesday (21Jan15) so he can recover.

Bennington says in a statement, "I need to take the proper time to assess the severity of my injury and apologise for any disappointment this has caused. I look forward to seeing you all again soon."

He goes on to thank fans for their well wishes in a series of messages posted on Twitter.com, writing, "Argh!... Man this sucks guys. I need my foot to work. If you guys have some good vibes laying around, send them c/o my ankle... You guys are the Best!! It really does mean a lot to me that so many of you guys care so much about us."

The band is due back on stage in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday (23Jan15).
