The first week of sales for the soundtrack CD of High School Musical 2 saw 615,000 copies move off the shelves, making it the second-hottest CD of the year, slightly behind the debut of Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight, which moved 623,000 in its debut week, according to Billboard magazine. (By contrast the soundtrack for the original High School Musical sold just 6,500 copies in its first week but eventually sold 4.1 million.) Ten songs from the soundtrack also entered the singles charts, including "You Are the Music in Me," performed by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, which debuted at No. 9.
