Pop star Lily Allen's joy at winning an NME Award turned to despair within minutes when she accidentally snapped the trophy in two.

The Smile hitmaker was named Best British Solo Artist at the ceremony in London on Wednesday (26Feb14) and she proudly picked up the statuette, which is shaped like a fist flipping the middle finger.

However, Allen was left down in the mouth at the event's afterparty when the extended finger of the gong snapped off. She was even photographed holding it in place as she posed for snappers, but was later seen leaving the party clutching her award in one hand and the broken finger in the other.

Following the incident, the singer posted a picture on Instagram.com on Thursday (27Feb14) showing her holding the severed digit and pulling an unhappy face, alongside the caption, "Broken".
