Lil Wayne has been nominated for a record breaking 18 BET Hip-Hop awards after the nominees were officially announced on Thursday morning (08.09.2011).
The nominations round off a very successful week for the rap superstar after his latest album Tha Carter IV debuted at number 1 in the billboard charts selling an impressive 964,000 copies. He will have to beat off competition from fellow hopefuls Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa who have also been nominated in a variety of categories including Lyricist of the Year, Track of the Year and Best Live Performer. Following Wayne are Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa who both have nine nominations. Comedian Mike Epps will host the awards which will take place in the Atlanta Civic Centre, Atlanta on October 11th.
Lil Wayne was born in New Orleans and began his rap career at an early age after dropping out of high school to pursue his musical ambitions. He has released nine studio albums including the 2008 album Tha Carter III which later went triple platinum and sent him to superstardom, the rapper has also appeared in several movies and is rumoured to have signed up for new crime drama Liberty City: The American Dream which traces the rise of a small-time gangster to the heights of a crime empire.
