The Taken star, 63, will step into Stellan Skarsgard's role in the 2014 original, which followed a mild-mannered snow plow driver seeking vengeance on his son's killers.

Director Hans Petter Molland will return to shoot the reboot, from a script written by Frank Baldwin, reports Deadline.com.

Ironically, Swedish actor Skarsgard, 64, previously revealed he is often mistaken for his Northern Irish peer, who he replaced in 2004's Exorcist: The Beginning after Neeson dropped out of the role of Father Merrin.
