The survivor thriller, about a 19th century fur-trapper who is left for dead after a bear attack, fittingly climbed to number one with a $16 million (£10.7 million) take during a slow weekend (22-24Jan16), which was heavily affected by theatre shutdowns as Winter Storm Jonas dumped record amounts of snow all along America's East Coast.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens bounces back up one place to two with $14.3 million (£9.53 million), taking its six-week global total to $1.94 billion, and last week's (17Jan16) top movie, Ride Along 2, slips to three with $13 million (£8.7 million).
