The star passed away on Friday (17Mar17).

Montaigne booked his first role in 1953's The Band Wagon and went on to star in TV shows and movies like Mission: Impossible, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Great Escape, Escape to Witch Mountain, and Star Trek.

The actor was once considered as Leonard Nimoy's replacement in science fiction series Star Trek if TV's Mr. Spock left for a role in Mission: Impossible. However, Nimoy returned to the show.

"They called my agent and said, 'We're considering Lawrence to replace Leonard'," he said in an interview with StarTrek.com in 2012. "They did the contracts and the whole thing, but there was a stipulation in the contract that said if Leonard comes back, then the whole thing is over.

"I was going on the assumption that I was going to play Spock when my agent called and said, 'Leonard is coming back to do the show. He's in and you're out'."
