British stars Estelle and Leona Lewis have each claimed two prizes at the Music of Black Origin (Mobo) awards in London.

While the American Boy singer was at the Wembley Arena show to collect her best female and best song awards, X Factor winner Lewis did not attend due to a scheduling conflict.

Some boos rang out in the north London arena as it emerged that Lewis was not there to accept her best album and best video (for Bleeding Love) prizes, while rapper Dizzee Rascal - winner of the best UK male prize - was also not present.

"It's a shame that their schedules and their touring didn't allow for them to be here," organiser Kanya King told the BBC. "Hey, there's always next year."

And Estelle said that despite the boos, Lewis is "a great artist and she deserved the awards she got".

East London's MC Chipmunk, 18, took the best newcomer award and paid tribute to Jamaican dancehall acts such as Beenie Man and Bounty Killer while the Motown record label took the lifetime achievement accolade.

The Supremes' Mary Wilson collected the prize and performed a medley of the girl groups' hit as well as a collaboration with Sugababes.

"I do believe that The Supremes have really influenced people like the Sugababes and Beyonce's group," she said.

"We were the model that they used, and that's a great accolade."

Other winners included US singer Chris Brown, who won best international act and best R 'n' B/soul and Radio 1's Tim Westwood, who claimed the best DJ prize.

Hosted by Run Dmc's Reverend Run and Spice Girl Mel B, highlights of the ceremony can be seen on BBC1 on Saturday October 18th at 23:50 BST.
