The Fly Away singer will honour the late musician, who passed away last April (16), at the special event at the Barclays Center in Brookyln, New York, on 7 April (17). The pair became close friends over the years, with Lenny previously admitting he felt a piece of him had died too after the loss of the Purple Rain hitmaker.

Rolling Stone further reports Alicia Keys is also set to sing on stage, as is Mary Chapin Carpenter and the Indigo Girls.

Meanwhile Pharrell Williams will present Chic’s Nile Rodgers, who he has collaborated with on a number of occasions including Daft Punk’s hit fourth studio album Random Access Memories, with the Award for Musical Excellence.

Dhani Harrison will induct Electric Light Orchestra, whose member Jeff Lynne was close friends with his late father George Harrison, into the prestigious Hall of Fame. When the Beatles’ musician passed away in 2001 Jeff teamed up with Dhani to help finish George’s last solo record, Brainwashed.

Train frontman Pat Monahan will initiate rockers Journey, whose songs Train has covered and referenced over the years.

The new presenter annoucements come after it was revealed that Snoop Dogg is to induct his late friend and hip-hop star Tupac Shakur into the Hall of Fame. Other artists who will be inducted on the night include Pearl Jam and Yes.
