Lee Daniels is on the lookout for the perfect male love match for Alex Pettyfer to star alongside him in Hollywood's first ever gay action hero blockbuster.

The Butler director is set to challenge film stereotypes by creating an "interracial love affair action movie" and is auditioning African-American actors to find Pettyfer's onscreen partner.

Daniels describes his project as a gay "Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but with the two good-looking guys as the action heroes", telling Out magazine, "(Pettyfer is) so hot, isn't he? So hot. And so aware of his hotness in a way that's so...I love him to death."

Despite studio bosses previously steering clear of a project featuring a lead gay character, Daniels insists his success at the box office will ensure the movie gets made: "I don't think I'm going to have a problem now. I made $100 million for The Butler. I'm in a rare group. So this is something I feel good about."

Pettyfer worked with Daniels on The Butler, playing plantation owner Thomas Westfall.
