Lauryn Hill is in trouble for not paying her taxes in the United States and it's doubtful that the judge will be taking her 'Miseducation' into account when it comes to sentencing her. According to Usa Today, Lauryn failed to pay tax for the income that she received from four private corporations, including Creations Music, Boogie Tours, Studio 22 and L.H. Productions.
The unpaid taxes stem from 2006, 2007 and 2008. She is said to have earned $818,000, $222,000 and $761,000 respectively in those years and the bulk of her income is from these recording and film companies. That's a total of over $1.6 million that the 37 year old singer has failed to file tax returns for and a criminal information file has been passed to the US District Court in Newark, which states that Hill is the owner and operator of these businesses. Each of the three tax years for which she has failed to file a return carries a maximum penalty of $100,000 fine and a penalty of up to a year in prison. The former Fugees star is expected to appear before Magistrate Judge Michael Shipp on June 29, 2012.
Hill's ex partner, Rohan Marley (Bob Marley's son) has announced his engagement to the Sports Illustrated model Isabeli Fontana. Lauryn has five children with Rohan, but he allegedly left her when he discovered that she was pregnant with another man's child.
