Confirming the Guardian's assertion that "she has got 'big in 2014' written all over her," acclaimed British singer-songwriter Laura Welsh becomes the latest addition to the new Island Records roster in the U.S.
The EP contains four songs, two of which are signature songs that have already been making waves in the UK:
1. "Ghosts" (Featured on the 'Masters Of Sex' Series 2 Trailer);
2. "Hardest Part," ( co-written with nine-time Grammy winner John Legend)
3. "Break The Fall," (her brand new UK single, released this month)
4. "Cold Front" (her debut single of 2013, available on iTunes, over 442,000 YouTube views to date, featured on this season's Grey's Anatomy)
The EP is the prelude to Laura's debut album (expected late 2014/early 2015), on which she collaborated with producers Emile Haynie, Greg Kurstin, Robin Hannibal and Dev Hynes.
Laura Welsh insiders are also paying attention to her recent project with UK dance/ electronic production duo Gorgon City. After collaborating with Rhye's Robin Hannibal (on "Cold Front"), Dev Hynes, and John Legend amongst others, Welsh loaned her killer vocals to Gorgon City for their current single"Here For You" (which she co-wrote). The track was released last week on UMG's Virgin EMI Records, and is already a UK Top Ten smash.
A maverick pop force with a widescreen creative vision, Laura Welsh's confessional songs of heartache and euphoria are wrapped in a forcefield of emotion and delivered with the devastating voice that made her one of iTunes' Tips for 2014 (UK). Her music was soon heard in episodes of tv hits Masters Of Sex, Grey's Anatomy, and Mistresses. She went on to open for Ellie Goulding at London's iTunes Festival, and supported London Grammar in November.
"Laura Welsh has one of those voices that's meant to sing really huge hooks," raved Fader (which premiered another one of her tracks, "Undiscovered") "The Staffordshire-born artist has already carved out a sound uniquely her own," echoed Clash magazine. "Economic-al¬ly layered, her bleeding-raw voice hovers over tracks stripped down to bare bones."
