From the 14-16th August, UK festival goers can take an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to combine a memorable festival experience with a late-summer break on France's "Emerald Coast", so called because the sea around Brittany is a vivid green colour.
As well as a carefully programmed and on-point lineup, the festival has more to offer: by day there is a beach stage at the medieval walled city of St. Malo, a wonder of churches, cobbles, fresh seafood and fine views, and by night, the festival moves to the main arena, set amongst the heavy walls of a magical, tumbledown French fort. The arena traditionally features a range of local food and drink, an indie label market, and post-headliner DJs and electro acts that play long into the night.
La Route Du Rock is a long-running and truly independent event, with previous headliners including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, The Cure, Massive Attack, The National, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and many more. As The National Student Newspaper said of last year's event, "La Route Du Rock could be the best festival decision you'll ever make."
