Kylie Minogue found similarities between undergoing surgery for breast cancer and preparing for a live show.
Kylie Minogue compared her breast cancer operation to going on stage.
The 45-year-old singer - who was diagnosed with the disease in May 2005 - found the preparation for going under the knife felt ''familiar'' to her, likening it to getting ready for a concert.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, her friend Kathy Lette recalled a conversation in which Kylie said: ''When the cancer was diagnosed and I was going in for surgery, I was lying there on the trolley and I was suddenly taken by the fact that I was going into a theatre.
''Medicine is so different from my business, but in some ways, so similar. The whole gowning up, the masks, the build-up, the adrenaline... It all felt so familiar.
''I was under lights. Ah! There's my spotlight.''
Kylie, who was given the all-clear from cancer in 2006, has previously admitted battling the disease stopped her worrying about her live shows.
She said: ''Even with the 'Fever' tour [in 2002], as proud as I was of that tour, I was still a little uncertain on stage. It probably wasn't until after being ill, coming back onto the road after the 'Showgirl' tour stopped. I certainly wasn't 100 per cent, but by that point I just thought, 'f**k it'. I thought, 'I just can't worry that much, people are enjoying it, I love doing it, so I owe it to myself to try and enjoy it and let go.' In anything you do, the more relaxed you are the better you will be. That's what I try to do.
''Well, that's the idea anyway. I'll still get stressed about a show, but it was around then that I started to accept who I am. This is who I am, this is where I'm good, this is where I'm not so good, this is my voice.''
The actress thinks it would be tough to recast her character, Winifred Sanderson.
