Bosses at Netflix announced on Wednesday (14Sep16) that the programme will have its series finale next year (17), following a shortened 10-episode season.

Bloodline, about a troubled family trying to cover up a murder, has garnered acclaim since its premiere last March (15), and has earned Emmy, Golden Globe and Writers Guild award nominations. Its stars Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendelsohn are both up for acting Emmys at this Sunday's (18Sep16) prizegiving.

The cancellation marks a rare move for Netflix executives, who have only axed crime drama Lilyhammer and horror series Hemlock Grove after each of their third seasons.

The streaming site is also home to original series such as Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Making a Murderer and summer breakout hit Stranger Things.
