The country duo wrapped up its Your Hands Tour back in August (12), and since then the pair has yet to announce any future plans.
Meanwhile, Nettles, who is currently pregnant, has been busy acting as a judge on U.S. Tv show Duets, and the lack of talk about new music has prompted many fans to question whether Sugarland was quietly preparing to part ways.
Bush has now spoken out to set the record straight, insisting the band is just taking a short break so Nettles can give birth and transition into her role as a first-time mum.
He tells The Boot, "Jennifer and I are not finished making records. We know that. We're excited that this (is) a great time to take a little bit of a breather because she's got to figure out being a mom.
"We've been on the road for a very long time, so there's no reason we shouldn't take a little time off. You've got to give people space to be a parent. I'm a parent and I know what kind of adjustment that has been for me.
"I love her (Nettles) more than anything in the world, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure her life adjusts so she can become the best possible mom she can be."
