Kevin Spacey was so determined to make Bobby Darin biopic Beyond The Sea with himself in the lead role, he began rehearsing the singer's hits before securing rights to his music.

The actor bought the rights to Darin's life-story from movie giants WARNERS in 2000 but also had to convince the late singer's manager STEVE BLAUNER and his estate to let him sing his songs - even though he had already worked out which tracks in his back catalogue he wanted to perform.

He says, "Steve Blauner had said, 'Over my dead body is anyone other than Bobby going to sing these songs in a movie.'

"But once I met them they realised that this was not about my ego - It's just more dynamic for the audience when someone's actually doing the performance."
