Actor Kevin Spacey has been hailed the saviour of London's Old Vic theatre on the opening night of his new play A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN. Spacey - who is artistic director of the theatre - defiantly responded to criticisms he hasn't invested enough of his acting talents into the beleaguered venue by taking a starring role in the production last night (26SEP06). NICA BURNS, co-producer of the new play, added her support, saying, "You never really understand things until you're there, but I've seen the man in action and he has clearly made a huge, serious, emotional life commitment to this particular theatre and all that it stands for. "He is a very hard-working serious artistic director and I think that's good news. "You can see him leading the place. I have complete respect for him." Spacey plays failed alcoholic actor JAMIE TYRONE in the play.
