Director Kevin Smith is celebrating pal Jason Mewes' return to sobriety by throwing a massive bash for the actor and showing exclusive footage of his upcoming movie Jersey Girl.

Mewes, whose role as drugs dealer JAY in Smith's films propelled him to stardom, has been struggling with heroin addiction for the past few years, but after a spell in rehabilitation he is now finally clean.

Proud Smith - who was forced to ban Mewes from his home at the height of his addiction - has invited fans of his films CLERKS, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and DOGMA to help toast the recovering actor by offering free tickets to the event.

Those wishing to attend have to pen an essay on why they should be allowed to join the party and send it to Smith via the website VIEWASKEW.COM.

Among the treats in store for the night - where there will be no alcohol or drugs - will be a chance to see unreleased footage from the Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez movie.

The event called STASH BASH2: WELCOME BACK JAY will take place in New Jersey on 28 September (03).
