Movie maker Kevin Smith has blasted Freddie Prinze Jr, after the movie star turned down a role in JAY + SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK - because he refused to poke fun at himself.

Smith heard the SCOOBY DOO star was a big fan of his and wrote a scene specially for him - but Prinze Jr was horrified.

Smith recalls, "He was trying to score a print of DOGMA before it came out and we were like, 'Oh, he must be a fan,' so I sent him a scene.

"It was a very self-deprecating performance. He read the script, which was us poking fun at his image, and apparently he was incensed: 'FPJ doesn't do that.'

"I guess his team referred to him as FPJ, which was kind of funny."
