Director Kevin Smith vows he'll never make a film featuring a celebrity couple again, after working with former lovers Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck on flop movie Jersey Girl.

The CLERKS movie-maker blames the backlash suffered by the pair on the film's failure to draw big crowds.

But despite Jersey Girl's poor box office performance and the critical mauling it received, Smith insists he loved working with Lopez and Affleck.

He says, "I think from now on I'm going to have a no couples rule in my movies. The negative vibe surrounding them has definitely taken away some of the business we could have done.

"It's a shame because they were real sweethearts on set."
