Rapper Kevin Gates will reportedly walk free from jail later this month (Mar17).
The Paper Chasers star, real name Kevin Gilyard, was sentenced to 180 days in jail on a battery charge for kicking a female fan during a 2015 performance.
Gilyard was onstage at Rumor's Nite Club in Lakeland, Florida in 2015 when audience member Miranda Dixon reportedly tugged at his shorts mid-performance. In video footage of the incident, Gates appeared to strike the woman in her abdomen with his foot, and police subsequently filed a criminal complaint against him. He was convicted of battery last year (Oct16) and also received one year of probation.
The 31-year-old has been serving his time at the Polk County Jail, but he will reportedly be released on 24 March (17).
Gilyard's lawyer Jose Baez had previously asked for the case to be dismissed under Florida's Stand your Ground Law, which allows an individual to defend themselves if threatened.
