Kenny Chesney has become the hot favorite to be the runaway success of the Academy Of Country Awards to be held on April 1st in Las Vegas, after coming out with nine nominations for the show - including his 10th nomination in his career for Best Male Vocalist. Jason Aldean is far adrift on six nominations, with trio Lady Antebellum on five.
Chesney is an utter phenomenon in the world of country music, with each of his last seven albums going straight in at the top of the US Country Charts, his commercial high point coming when he had back to back albums - 'No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems' in 2002, and 'When The Sun Goes Down' in 2004 - both going four times platinum in the States, among nine albums of his to have gone beyond the platinum mark for selling one million units. His last album was 'Hemingway's Whiskey,' released in 2010.
He won't have it all his own way however, for it's the fans who vote in one of the categories he's up for awards in, Entertainer Of The Year, and with the likes of Taylor Swift and Blake Shelton also in the mix, he may find himself taking second place to one of the younger acts with more crossover appeal. Nevertheless it's still expected to be a great night for the country icon.
