Kenny Chesney has dismissed reports suggesting he was not impressed with Beyonce's Dixie Chicks collaboration at the Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) on Wednesday (02Nov16), insisting he is a big fan of the superstar.
The Drunk in Love singer stunned the crowd as she took to the stage at the Nashville, Tennessee prizegiving alongside the country music trio to perform Daddy Lessons from her album Lemonade.
Beyonce's duet with the Dixie Chicks, who have been performing the song as part of their DCX MMXVI tour in recent months, proved a hit with fans and critics alike, but as the camera panned to the star-studded audience, Chesney was caught looking less than impressed.
The image quickly went viral, with viewers commenting on his "sour" looking expression, but country music veteran Chesney insists he really did enjoy seeing the 35-year-old R&B icon at the show - and claims onlookers shouldn't jump to conclusions.
In a statement, he declared: "I love Beyonce. I loved her Super Bowl performance, her sense of how to make the music hit really hard - and give it drama when she's onstage. The idea her fans were so quick to judge me, or know what I was thinking, doesn't feel like the woman I've always imagined Beyonce to be - and honestly, the people who love her music, either."
