FRASIER star Kelsey Grammer has been rejected by veteran actor James ARNESS, after offering to do a TV interview with him.

Grammer wanted to promote his show's final season by teaming up with former GUNSMOKE star Arness, who held the record as having played one character - MATT DILLON - for the longest period of time at 20 years.

But now that Grammer's FRASIER CRANE will equal that record, Arness is not the biggest fan of his fellow title-holder.

Grammer says, "In the beginning of the year to promote the opening shows, I was appearing on the TODAY show and my publicist thought it might be a nice idea if Mr Arness appeared with us.

"I thought that was a great idea, so they called him and he wasn't interested in joining us. In fact, at the end of the phone call he said, 'By the way, tell Kelsey Grammer I said F you!'

"I was a little dismayed to hear such a sentiment, but apparently it has something to do with the fact that he had one thing that he could call his own, which now he has to share. I'm very happy to share it with him, but that's the way I was brought up. Miserable son a gun!"
