LATEST: The man convicted of raping Kelly McGillis apologised to the American actress yesterday (12JUN06), after he was found guilty of attacking two more women. The TOP GUN star was raped by LEROY JOHNSON JR in 1982 when she was an aspiring actress living in New York City. Johnson, who was 15 at the time of the attack, was picked out by MCGillis from police mugshots and was convicted with fingerprint evidence. The horrific crime inspired MCGillis' subsequent performance as a sex-crimes prosecutor in 1988 film The Accused. In a statement released to the New York Post after his conviction on rape, sodomy and robbery charges dating back to 1996, Johnson said, "This case has received a lot of media attention because of the 1982 case involving Ms Kelly MCGillis. I was young, I made a big mistake, and I'm sorry for what I did to her." Johnson has already spent 20 years behind bars for sex crimes and now faces a further 25 years in prison.
